Construction Notes from John:
Added and remodeled: Dining Hall, Kitchen, Frozen Food Lockers, and Perimeter Covered Patio
This addition presented a challenge to design a well-lighted dining hall to accommodate 20 tables seating 8 to a table. The space had to be inviting and acoustically quiet, as the elderly occupants have hearing and speaking problems.
The higher ceiling accommodates north facing clerestory windows, and large, arched, perimeter windows provide the quality of light that is very pleasant to the occupants. The perimeter-covered patio provides the shade necessary to reduce any glare from the large perimeter windows and sliding doors.
Colorful acoustic wall panels and occupant-designed tapestries add to the warmth and acoustic quality of the dining space.
Service from the kitchen and service stations provide efficient circulation for the staff and diners.
