Construction Notes from John:
This property had to be rezoned from single-family residence to church-education. The congregation was eager for construction to begin, as they were holding services in a city auditorium facility.
Once the rezoning was accomplished, they anxiously kept track as we completed tests, surveys, grading plans, construction documents and specifications, building permit, bidding, construction, and, finally, occupancy. The site is planned for a future chapel and for expansion of the education wing, and more parking.
The site is rather unusual in that it is in a flood plain, so the preparation of the pad around the church had to accommodate any rising water. Special trenching and French drains were installed.
The concrete slab preparation had to have extra waterproof membranes installed, along with extra steel reinforcing and extra-strength concrete.
During construction, we had a very heavy rainy season, with no water problems due to the site preparation.
Construction took 14 months. Parishioners donated time and materials to defray the expense of construction and landscaping.
The church accommodates a sanctuary, 6 classrooms, nursery, church offices, rest rooms, children's play area, patio and barbeque facility.
