Construction Notes from John:
Adding to the existing bank presented the rather unique problem of keeping the bank open during regular business hours and making sure customers and bank staffs were comfortable and not inconvenienced in any manner.
I designed a flow chart for the General Contractor (out of San Francisco), coordinating bank staff, bank executives, contractors, and interior designers into a sequence of construction phases that resulted in a project that went smoothly.
Extending the existing footprint of the bank into an existing U-shaped exterior patio entrance made the expansion itself pretty straightforward.
Some of the problems we had to coordinate were security, communication, computers, telephones, electrical, television, air conditioning, an underground seasonal stream, the noise and dust of construction and, of course, meeting all the environmental and A.D.A. issues.
With the cooperation of the staff and crew, the project was completed within the time frame of 6 months, part of which spanned the 2006-2007 holiday season.
